What we do
We are a charity set up by Mrs Vera Nnadozie the CEO of Verachilly Consultancy Services Limited United Kingdom and Verachilly Social Work Services Nigeria to address the social care needs of women and children in rural communities in Nigeria who are living in absolute poverty without support.
We work with public schools in rural areas to provide learning materials to children identified by the school to be in needs of the learning materials.
We also work with our women coordinators to identify families in need of financial support due to unemployment, domestic violence and family bereavement of their key providers.
Why we're needed
Nigeria has a population of 213 million where 1 in 3 children are not in school, 68% of the population live below the poverty line, 43% of girls are married before their 18th birthday and only 10% of children attend secondary.
Women in Nigeria earn on average 25% less than their male counterparts, and despite making up the majority of the agricultural workforces, they are not in control of the land they work on. When we empower women and girls with education and skills acquisition training opportunities, we are creating a generation of self-dependency and lowering the scale of poverty in many homes in Nigeria.
We believe that children should be empowered to thrive, and no child should arrive at school without their essential learning materials, that women can generate wealth while working from home without the need to leave their children unattended.
Our services
We offer programmes and services to support women and girls in deprived communities to develop their financial independence, self-confidence skills. They are designed to give them the skills and knowledge they need to succeed, which include:
- Independent social work and community development services to women and children in rural communities.
- Advocacy and Signposting.
- Family Support programmes on how to manage relationships, parenting, housekeeping, personal hygiene, healthy meal preparation, safety at home to end all forms of abuse against women.
- Training and skills acquisition project.
- The provision of learning material to children in public schools (Back to school).
- The provision of sanitary pads to young girls in secondary school (Pad-A girl project).
- Business mentoring and small business grant making to committed members of the charity community or those identified by our state coordinators in their communities.
- Online mentoring and Advice through our social media online community project on Facebook with over 3,000 women and girls from different parts of Nigeria.
